August 27 - September 30 Ruth Sokolof Theatre, 1340 Mike Fahey Street
Series generously sponsored by Sam Walker and Elizabeth Emlen Walker
Film Streams and UNO’s Office of Latino/Latin American Studies (OLLAS) are excited to announce the second biennial Cinemateca series celebrating Latino, Latin American and Spanish cinema. The series will take place August 27 – September 30 at Film Streams’ Ruth Sokolof Theater (1340 Mike Fahey Street, Omaha).
In all, Cinemateca 2010 features 10 films from eight different countries (Mexico, Argentina, Cuba, Spain, Uruguay, Chile, Peru, and Brazil). The series covers more than 40 years of cultural, political, and cinematic history — from the jaw-dropping photography and general bravura of MEMORIES OF UNDERDEVELOPMENT (Cuba, 1964) to the heart-wrenching narrative and immediate relevance of SIN NOMBRE (Mexico, 2009).
Each Tuesday during the series, Film Streams and OLLAS will present a special screening and post-show discussion led by OLLAS faculty members.
The Cinemateca series is curated by Film Streams in collaboration with OLLAS faculty and staff members Lourdes Gouveia, Jonathan Benjamin-Alvarado, María Arbelaez, Michael Carroll, Ramón Guerra, Steven Torres, María Elvira Villamil, Alejandra Toledo, and Andrea Dominguez, and Film Streams Board Member Betiana Simon.
