It is our pleasure to announce the formation of the OMA (Omaha Moving Ahead) PAC. Our Mission Omaha has a great deal to offer its citizens, the State and the country. However, like many other cities, Omaha has fallen on critical times. The city faces difficult decisions on taxes, economic development and security as it moves forward. The difficult decisions that Mayor Suttle and the City Council will make over the next four years have direct impact to the quality of life of the people of Omaha. It is the mission of this PAC to ensure accountability. In addition, that the people of Omaha have a voice as the elected leaders of this city move forward on critical decisions. In the next four years, this PAC will support legislation and initiatives that spur economic growth and development and will question actions by Mayor Suttle and the City Council that may hurt the taxpayers. Strategy This PAC will act as a “watch dog” to the current administration and City Council. To be successful in this effort, the PAC will remain vocal and present in policy decisions that will have a direct impact of Omaha businesses and young professionals. The PAC will use the tactics of earned media, new media and grassroots to effectively deliver its message. Issues KEEP OMAHA OPEN FOR BUSINESS Our city is nationally recognized for our business environment, strong neighborhoods, and high quality of life. This PAC believes that if the right action is taken, we are on the verge of something even more special - a brighter, more vibrant future for Omaha. This PAC will fight for vision with a back to basics approach that creates new business incentives, brings new workers to grow the tax base, and improves city infrastructure.
Expand business opportunities. With the arrival of Yahoo! and the continued attention given our largest and most reputable companies, Omaha has proven that we can and will compete nationally for new businesses. This PAC will defend business leaders and the Chamber of Commerce as it pressures the Suttle administration to create new incentive programs that attract regional and national employers to Omaha, employers that will create jobs and increase our revenue while building our reputation as a city that's "open for business."
Opportunities for young professionals. In the past few years, Omaha's young professionals and entrepreneurs have become increasingly involved in the future of this city. Many of Omaha’s young professionals realize that much is at stake for their businesses and families. The PAC will fight for initiatives and legislation that will keep young workers here and provide them the economic and cultural opportunities they need to thrive.
Protect the Omaha Taxpayer. As the City of Omaha faces trying economic times, the Suttle Administration and the City Council must look for ways to lessen the financial burden on Omaha taxpayers – not add to it. As the city’s elected officials face critical decisions concerning the taxpayer, the PAC will make sure that financial decisions are made with careful consideration and input from the public.
